Tho French, steamer Australien, which arrived in Sydney Harbour' last week, had on board a prisoner guarded day and night by armed, warders. He is a young ex-officer of the French army, who has been exiled to hiew Caledonia for life for selling his country’s secrets to another Power. His name is Louis Eerthon, and in his position as a lieutenant of a battery he became the repository of much confidential knowledge. The secrets entrusted to him he .sold to Germany for money. His treachery was discovered by accident, and he was toon arrested. The Court, in exiling him, granted his request for'a healthy colony, and allowed his wife to accompany him. Six warders," with their wives and children, accompany the prisoner, whose cabin front has been replaced with iron bars, through which all his movemente are watched.
