LOWER VALLEY NOTES

Rain is falling to-day. It will do much good, although it will interfere slightly with haymaking operations. FBATHERSTON, November 28.
The dairy factory at Greytown is at present receiving 3055 gallons of milk. A record consignemcnt of 300 oases of cheese goes Home in the Corinthic. Mr R. N. Barton, of Bower Valley, has presented a handsome cup to the Masterton A. and P. Association for competition at the nest show in the maiden hack class.
It is stated that owing to the exceptionally good season this year there will be a much greater percentage of lambs ready for the freezing chain ber as compared with several years past. A young man who Was on Monday remanded to Wellington for medical treatment, through the effects of drink, was brought before Mr WGilpin, _ J.P., on Friday and convicted and discharged upon paying medical expenses, A horse, valued at JE3O, owned by Mr, C. Fairbrother, of Dalefield, had to bo shot at Carterton. on Thursday. ; The animal was being worked with another, when its mate kicked out, catching it on the hind leg just above the cannon bone, smashing it like matchwood. The summer show- of the Wairarapa Horticultural and Industrial Society, held at Carterton to-day, was well attended, jn many classes there was keen competition. The sweet peas and roses were particularly good. Alfred Booth (Gladstone) secured first for this best rose in the show. Vegetables were a poor lot compared with those shown at Feathcrston the previous Thursday. The prize for best decorated table, decided by popular vote, was won by Miss Engle, Mrs C. Goodson second, Mi&s K. Booth third.
