BODIES FOUND IN AN OLD SHAFT

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright MELBOURNE, November 28. The decomposed bodies of a man and a -woman were found in the shaft of the Rushworth mine, which has been closed for four years. The affair is mysterious, ns nobody had been reported missing. The shaft is a resort of swagmen.

VICTIMS STRANGERS TO THE' DISTRICT,

(Received November 30, 1.5 a.m.) MELBOURNE, November 29.

Tire police are investigating the Rushworth mine mystery. It is believed the persons found wore murdered. Tho bodies could not have been got where they were found without lifting and haling out tanks weighing four hundredweight. It must have taken more than one person to do this. A quantity of iron rails and other heavy debris was also thrown on top of the tank. Tho male victim was over six feet in height and was strongly built. The frontal hone of the skull is completely smashed. The woman’s head is missing. It may have disappeared by natural decomposition.

Amongst quantities of clothes found in tho shaft was a newspaper dated August 29th. Tho victims are strangers' to tho district.
