TECHNICAL EDUCATION BOARD
The AAollington Technical Education Toard mot last night. Present: — Messrs J. P. Luke. M.P. (chairman), T. Ballinger,- J, G. W. Aitkcn, 1). MoLaren, 31. P., W. H. Allan, T. Carmichael. anti D. Robertson. 3lr Allan-was welcomed hack to the hoard, on his return from England. In reply, 3lr Allan said that from his inquiries at Homo, he had como to fho conclusion that the Wellington board had very little to loam in'the matter of technical education. Ho considered they ware fortunate in possessing tho services of 3lr La Troho ns director. Ho was pleased, on his return, to find tho school in such a prosperous condition.
Tho statement of finances showed a credit balance of £1560 for tho year 1009, but this included contributions and grants for apparatus which had not been expended to tho extent of £874, leaving a not balance for working expenses of £696. 'lt was impossible at present, however, to make any forecast as to next year’s operations. On tho motion of tho chairman, it was decided ;~“That this board is of tho opinion that the efficient teaching of technical education in this city and district can only bo effected by tho erection and equipage of suitable promises on an ample and convenient site. To enable the Minister for Education to ascertain tho requirements, and to mako proper provision! in his next year’s estimate for romoy-1 ing the disabilities associated with thof present conditions, tho director he in-i Ktnicted to bring before tho hoard at! its January mooting a complete report) to give effect to the above resolution.”
