The appeal by Lord Curzon, Chancellor of the University of Oxford, for funds for university purposes, has resulted so far in £133,000 being subscribed. The English Rugby Union has suspended Middleton, of the Australian amateur Rugby team, “ The 'Wallabies,” for striking an opponent during the Oxford match. SYDNEY, November 27. The Labour Council has adopted a resolution protesting against the Government arranging with the Salvation Army to bring out immigrants. • In the State Legislative Assembly leave was given to introduce a Daylight Saving Bill similar to that which passed its second reading stage in the British House of Commons. MELBOURNE, November 27. Out of fifty-three candidates for the police force thirty-two were rejected for being under height and not having the requisite chest measurement. Seven failed in the education test, and of the fourteen remaining only one w’as able to pass the medical tests.
