SOME LOCAL OPTION FIGURES

Yesterday morning wo published the whole of the figures in connection with tho recent local option' poll and gave a few comparisons of tlie outstanding features of the voting in relation toi previous years. It will still he in-; foresting to our readers to have focussed before them in concentrated form the movement of tho voting in tho four cities, the figures being more instructive than any comment upon the polling could possibly be. Tho following tables show the number of voters at each poll, tho direction in which their votes wont and the verdict, C. being for continuance, It. for reduction: — WELLINGTON.

The following analysis of the polling shows the increases this year in (1) the voters, (2) the vote for continuance, (3) the vote for No-Lioonso: — • NoVoters. Continuance. License.

The figures given in the following table disclose the number of votes that rvere required at the polls of 1905 and 1903 respectively, to carry No-License and tho number of votes actually cast in favour thereof: —

Thus the' shortage in the No-License vote in each of the cities is revealed to have been as follows:

which shows that in Wellington, Auckland and Dunedin there was a very close struggle.
