Councillor Bnrne was asked to get. ft report on tho application of residents of Aidtl to have formation and metalling of tho footpath- along one side of the Gorge road completed to the town boundary. Messrs Banks -and Co.'s offer to contribute .£25-towards tho cost of repairing tho roads on Table Flat, over which they cart was accepted. The Palmerston North Sash and-Door Factory wrote that they were unable to pay -£250 towards the upkeep of roads over which they carted timber in the ccunty. They would recommend tho payment of 4d on each hundred foot of timber carted over the roads, and undertake not to keep their waggons off tho roads during five mouths of tho year.— It was resolved to accept this, conditionally on no carting being done during tji3 winter months, and the waggon-tax being paid. The treasurer's and engineer's reports wore received and adopted. In regard to tho Hirer Commission, it was resolved 1;o assume the attitude that this Council was not concerned in the proceedings. It was resolved to inform Messrs Hick, eawmillcrs, that tho main cross roaa was unfit for timber traffic, and that a guarantee would bo required from tho firm, or such traffic would have to bo discontinued.

Tho engineer was instructed to rejport fully at tho next meeting on.tho timber traffic.

. It was resolved that tenders bo called, to bo in next meeting, for 400 yards metal on tho Makeikei road.

The chairman reported that tho deputation which waited on the Minister for Public "Works with reference to tho reinstatement of the Pohangina bridge, ha I not been able to get a dolinito reply, as tho Minister was engaged at tho time they waited upon him wiih. other pressing business.—-It was decided to ask Mr Lethbridge to find out what the Minister is prexmred to do in tho matter, and that in the meantime nothing further bo done to the bridge.
