MINING DISASTER.
ELEVEN DEATHS EXPLOSION IN A SOMERSET COLLIERY. HEROIC RESCUERS.By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received April 12, 4.20 p.m.) LONDON, April 11. An explosion, with loss of life, occurred yesterday at tho Norton Hill colliery, Somerset, while a night shift composed of thirty mom was at work. The explosion is attributed to tho ignition of powder dust while a shot was being fired. Twenty of the men managed to make their escape, but ten were suffocated, despite repeated heroic attempts to effect their rescue.
Many of tho rescuers wore overcome by gaseous fumes and wore carried out of tho mine in an insensible condition. Ono died after being brought out.
