PBESS ASSOCIATION. PALMERSTON. February 24. Councillors Clausen, Mathcson, and Nash have signed a requisition requesting tdie Mayor (Mr R. Essex) to call a special mooting to consider .the matter of the resignation of Mr W. W. Smith, curator of reserves. It is probable that the meeting will be called for Friday evening next. The Butt-Bumford Concert Company appeared at the Opera House this evening, receiving a tremendous reception. Madame gave several encore items, and at the termination of the last item—a duet between Madame Butt and Mr Rumfond—there was a storm of applause, the audience refusing to leave their scats until an encore was given. Mr H. Haydon, the originator of the motion which caused the recent deadlock in the Borough Council, has decided to contest the Mayoralty at the forthcoming ©lection, > The Conciliation Board held a brief sitting here to-day in connection with the butter workers’ dispute. Present: Messrs P. J. O’Began (Chairman), A. Collins, and W. H. Westbrooke, for the employees, and T. Bedford and H. Tunis, for the employers, Messrs A. McWilliam and W. Dick 'were present for the workers, The Chairman stated that it appeared the employers had not accepted the invitation to be present, and it was decided to adjourn and visit feme of the factories around Palmerston North.
