THE DAIRY SCHOOL

(To tho Editor "N.Z. Times.") Sir, —There has b«on considerable agitation for some years to have a dairy school established in the Dominion. It would be a good idea for the Government to have power to strike a rate for the maintenance of these schools and make it payable within a ton-mile radius. I have no doubt this would have a very ©ootbiug effect on those who wish to have the school in their district. The establishment of a dairy school should not be pone on with at present. We have a first-class lot of men managing out cheese and butter factories —at least, the Minister of Lands and various dairy exports say so—men who have nothing to learn from other parts of the world. I3v the appointing of tho last lot of dairy inspectors w© should have a milk supply that will enable an altogether superior article to bo mad© at the factories. The weak point in Dairying has boon hit, and it will bo a great surprise to many if there is not a va«t improvement in out dairy produce next season. Tho present State farms are very expensive affairs to run, and are of very little use. A dairy school would in all likelihood become such as they ore. Conditions vary, and what .suits one place would not do another. The farmers would not hear of inspectors a few years ago: they knew everything; but they are already being made to know more, and the days of using the pig-sly, fowlhouse, etc., as part of the milk stand, is uve-r.—l am, etc., THE MICROBE.
