MEASLES ON THE CORINTHIC.

During tho voyago of tho Corinthic, which arrived at Wellington on Saturday morning from London, an outbreak of measles occurred a few days after leaving Capetown. Tho first case, that of a child in tho third class, was immediately isolated, and ‘‘contacts” wore also separated from tho other passengers. Other cases developed, and about half a dozen patients wore accommodated in tho hospital on tho upper dock and tho two nursing compartments below. Frequent fumigation and unremitting attention prevented tho epidemic spreading. Unfortunately, on January 21th, one day prior to tho arrival of tho Corinthie at Hobart, a death resulted, the victim Liebig Kenneth Endy, aged four years, son of Mr and Mrs J. Endy, passengers to Wellington- On arrival at Wellington tho Health Officers decided to transfer the patients and "contacts” to Somes Island, where everything was prepared for their reception. About a dozen persons were transferred to tho quarantine station. Two of tho cases nro of recent origin, tho rash being visible, and although the patients are mostly young children there is also ono adult case—a young man —who is now convalescent. Tho Port Health Officer, Dr Pollen, characterises tho outbreak as very mild. Some of the “contacts," who are children, aro expected to show symptoms of tho complaint shortly. Tho steamer has boon subjected to a thorough fumigation and disinfection.
