WOMAN SUFFRAGIST.
Time does not seem in the least to stale the enthusiasm of the women agitators, who have made up their minds to obtain vi et armis the suffrage for their sex. Deputations still wait on Ministers when they are accessible, and behave rowdily at Ministerial meetings. Mr LloydGeorge lately received a deputation of suffragists at Glasgow who submitted a memorial demanding that the Government should bring in a Bill next session to give them their heart’s desire. Mr Lloyd-George said that, though both himself and the Blender wore in favour of granting the franchise to women, it would be impossible to attempt suoh an important political change without consulting the electors. H'e recommended them meanwhile to possess their souls in patience, and to educate their sex, implying thereby that the sex did not greatly care about tho franchise. Mi- Lloyd-George further commented freely on tho questionable tactics adopted by the reformers, and pointed out the unkindness of going to Bristol to worry the Prime Minister on the subject, who was one of thoir best friends, and tho state of whose health made freedom from worry so necessary. When men wished an extension of the franchise it was not so they proceeded. Air LloydGeorge thinks it is an intolerable act of oppression on the part of men to deny women the franchise. Mr John Morley, an equally staunch advocate of woman’s right to the vote, thinks it absurd to pretend that “women are incapable of political interests and capacity, or that the power of voting on thoir own account must be injurious to their womanhood.” This being tho way members of the Cabinet regard the question, it may be supposed the enfranchisement of women is not now far distant.
