The little schooner Alice, from Malden Island, with a load of Jhrd guano, berthed last evening at the breastwork, Customhouse quay. Captain Schroder reports that the Alice left Wellington on September 18th with coal and supplies for the men working on Malden Island. The distance, about. 3500 miles, was made in twenty-niue days—a smart passage for a small schooner. The Alice loaded about 350 tons of guano, and sailed on the return trip on October 20th. Fine weather prevailed till arriving In Cook Strait last Sunday, when a worth-north-westerly gale was encountered with a very heavy sea. The little craft was almost buried in the huge seas, and during the gale the fore staysail boom and staysail were carried away. Port was made on Tuesdy night. The cargo is consigned to the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Ltd. The crew of seven arc in good health.
