An interesting new development is about to take place in connection with the financing of tho Australian iron industry. It is announced that a powerful new company is being registered to erect large works for manufacturing iron and steel in the Commonwealth.. Colonel Stanley, AA1.1.C.5., consulting engineer to the Queensland Government, and Australian representative of tho world-renownod firm of Armstrong, Whitworth and Co./Limited; Mr F. If. Molesworth (metallurgist), accompanied by Mr J. Earle Hermann, organising manager of the Now Direct Process, Iron, Steel, and Metals Corporation, , Limited (who have purchased the Commonwealth and New Zealand rights of tho Mooro-Kes-fceth process for making iron or steel in ono operation) are now in Melbourne., These gentlemen are making exhaustive tests at the Moofe-Hesketh works in South Mlbourne. Amoug the party, too. Is Mr Nonkea, managing director of tho Clyde Engineering Works. Sydney, which employs 900 men. and recently secured the contract for making 60 locomotives for the Now South Wales Government, who is also making a visit of inspection. The capital of tho new company is £400,000, to bo increased if necessary, and the site of the works is 104 miles from Sydney, and contains unlimited quantities of iron, coal, .limestone, manganese, etc. The board of the new company i» a very strong one. ™ „ , Mr J. Earle Hermann had an interview with Mr Alfred Dcakin, the Prime Minister, on the above subject yesterday.
