TODDLIN' HAME.
The veteran Scots-Canadian poet, tHo Rev. W. Wye Smith, recently celebrated his eightieth birthday hy preaching a cermoii in ‘‘braid Scots'* in his church, St. Catherine’s, Ontario, The following is one of hie latest compositions:
Toddlin' hame frao echule and frao lesson, JDcon the wee laddie gangs, whusslin' in pride j Blythe is his welcome and , sweet the / caressin' • In the wee cottage by yon bui-nside: Yon burneidc 'maug the hills o' the heather. Yon burnsido where his day-dreams gather. Where the wee laddie shall mak' him a name — Toddlin' hame.
Toddlin' hame .when the gleamin' is fa'in. Weary and wae, wi' his face to the west; Lang has he toiled sin' he left in the da win', Noo he is toddlin' hame till his rest: Hame till his rest, where his wifi© is smilin', ~ Hame till his rest, where his bairns are beguilin'; There has ho biggit his hopes and his fame— Toddlin' tiame.
Toddlin' hame, in our thochts and our dreaming Back to the land that our orisons . name; E’en as the sun, wi' his mornin' Ucht beamin', Blythely brings till ns a message frae hame: Message frao hame, on the wings o' the mornin', Message frao hame, dishonour aye scornin'; Dearest auid mither, wo honour thy name— Toddlin' hame.
Toddlin' hame, when this life has grown weary, Daylicht is dune, and the gleamin' is nigh, Peace to the pilgrim! JNao journey is dreary, Airtit by angels and led to the sky. Led to the sky by a way that ye kenna. Led to the sky, gin it binna y© wlrnia; Leal to the Lovin' Ane —blest bo His name!— Toddlin' hame.
