The horses engaged in the Maiden Plate at Woodville include Ru (sister to Polyanthus), who ran second at Waxpawa; and Borderland, runner-up in the \Vaii*arapa Hack Guineas. The majority of the horses engaged xn the Hack Hurdles at Woodville .would bo bettor suited by a mil© and a half than a mil© and three-quarters. . Tei Uira lias won over the longer distance. At Trentham in the winter Waipu ran second. to Stayboy. Daisy Paul and Lady Disdain showed good form over seven furlongs at Pending. With 8.9 on his back Moral won the Manchester Handicap in 2min Bsec. With another 71b or so the writer reckons Moral would run a mile and a quarter in 2min 30sec. , . In the Niknu Hack Handicap at Fcilding, Nikau carried 8.13 and ran six furlongs in Imin 15 2>ssec. Moloch ran a creditable third in the Kiwitea Welter on the opening day of tho Feildlng meeting. Lord Soult carried, 9.4 when he acted as runner-up to Elevation in the Feildiug Stakes, five furlongs. Rarata, winner of the two-year-old race at Takapuna on Saturday last, is a brown colt by Eton—Peace (The Officer —Content), a half-sister to Contender and full-sister to Success, one of the Waikanae stud matrons. R-arata runs in the same colours as Cambrian, and is a first foal. The Trial Handicap winner. Philosopher, is a five-year-old horse by Cyrenian, from Porangi POtae (Castor — Madcap). Lady Clements is. probably the first of tho progeny of St. Clemente to win a jumping race.

Acceptances for the principal handicap events at the Auckland summer meeting are due on Friday. Some of the winners at Takatpuna on Saturday are engaged in more important events to bo decided at Ellerslie on Boxing Day. The St. Andrew's Handicap winner, Cranium, is ono of the useful Leolantis tribe front Brownie (a daughter of Hotchkiss), who did practically nothing on the track. Uranium opened the season with a win in the Avondale Cup, and has now added the principal event at Taiapuna to her list. Both events were run over ten furlongs. Uranium has quickly worked her way to the front. She won her first race last Boxing day at the Thames, and won six times m succession. Xu the Auckland Cup she waa placed on the same mark as Paritntu, who was among the unplaced competitors in Saturday’s race. A 21b penalty will place Uranium next to Zimmerman. Three Auckland Cup candidates (Gazeley, William and Star Rose) wore seen out at Feilding, but none of them showed winning form. Probable, winner of a double at Timaru, has to put up 21b extra. This: increases his impost to Ist, under which weight he failed in the New Zealand Cup. Five Railw-ay Handicap candidates, viz., Muujeet, Cambrian, Oxton, Splendid Idea, and Wallaa-y, sported silk at Feilding. Two of Saturday's winners at Taka- 1 puna (Devonport and' Veronica) are in tho Bllerslio sprint race with light weights. Devonport (Sdult—Anna) finished up with a win at Ellerslie last month. Both horses escaped a penaltv. Hautapu has to put up 71b extra in the Grafton Hurdles, which penalty increases his weight to 11.5. The Takapuna meeting will be concluded to-morrow. ■

Tho ! Hororata and Waiiara meetings will be held on Thursday. Munjeet, 1 who came up to compete at the Feilding meeting, was shipped South list night. It is doubtful at present whether Mr Stead will be represented at tho Christmas meeting. If eo, W. Holmes, who was associated with the stable some years back, will probably do the riding.
