At the municipal elections a great "landslide,” or overwhelming vote, was recorded in San Francisco in favour of the Mayor (Dr Taylor) and a “good government ticket.” Dr Taylor wan elected Mayor of San, Francisco, in succession to Eugene Schmitt, who was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for corrupt practices, in July last. amM m m ediatoly set about reorganising tho city’s affairs. He appointed sixteen supervisors of high .standing, including merchants and bankers. Dr Taylor’s invitation to labour union loaders to servo on the board was not accepted.
