NEWCASTLE COLLIERS.
A RESOLUTE STAND REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES. AN ULTIMATUM TO MINEOWNERS. By Teloeraph— Press Aoeociat'.on —CopyrlciA (Received November 9, 0.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 8. Tho position regarding tho Nor?oastlo district miners has reached an acute stage. A meeting of tho Northern Miners Committeo of Management to-day discussed tho new attitude of tho proprietors in locking-out its members at tho Ilebburn, Burwood, Lambtoa B, and Northumberland pits, and their attitude in regard to other 'grievances, and resolved to recommend " that until such disputes aro settled wo will refuse to assist them to crush our fellow men. We, therefore, refuse to continue working any longer under the circumstances.”
It was further resolved that if tho proprietors before Tuesday reinstate the locked-out miners and also agree to an umpire being appointed, along with a committee of three from each side, to settle grievances, tho committeo would recommend the continuance or work. Advices from Newcastle show U following on the refusal of their recent demand for increases, the closing of tho Burwood and Lamhton B pits has aroused resentment among tho miners, and if the proprietors are determined to starve tho locked-out men into submission they aro not going to assist tho proprietors by providing strike funds.
The proprietors express equal determination not to give way. A suggestion has been made that the Premier or other Ministers should intervene in the matter.
