An interesting new development t is about to take place in connection with the financing of the Australian iron industry. It is announced that a power* ful new company is being registered to erect large works for manufacturing iron and steel in tho Commonwealth. Colonel Stanley, A.M.1.C.5., consulting engineer to the Queensland Government, and Australian, representative of tho world-renowned firm of Armstrong, Whitworth and Co., Limited; Mr F. H. Moles* worth (metallurgist), accompanied by Mr J. Earle Hermann, organising manager ortho Now Direct Process, Iron, Steel, and Metals Corporation, Limited (who have purchased tho Commonwealth and New Zealand rights of the Moore-Hes-keth process for- making iron or steel in one operation) are in Melbourne. These gentlemen are making exhaustive tests at the Moore-Hesketh works in South Mlbourne. . Among tho party, too, is Mr Noakcs, managing director of tho Clyde Engineering Works, Sydney, which employs 900 men, and recently secured the contract for making GO looomotiyea for the New South Wales Government, who is also making a visit of inspection. Tho capital of tho new company is .£400,000, to be increased if necessary, and the site of the works is 104 miles from Sydney, and contains unlimited quantities of iron, coal, limestone, manganese, etc. The board of the now company is a very strong one. Mr J. Earle Her-, maim had an interview with Mr Alfred Deakin, the Prime Minister, on tho above subject yesterday. Messrs Wilson, Rattray and Dauby, the incorporate accountants, have been appointed Melbourne reproeentativos of the now com* pany. The Minister of Defence is greatly interested in' the Moore-Qeekett steel process in its relation to the naval oonstruci tion programme of the Government, and is making private inquiries in that re- 1 gard.—Advt.
