THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20. (Before Dr A. McArthur, S.M.) POLICE CASES. For druiikcniiceci John Miller, an old offender, was tentenood to three months' impiisoninent with hard labour. Catherine Thatcher, found at night without lawful excuse on the premises of \V. 11. Newenham, Hopper street, waa sentenced to one month's imprisonment uith card labour. Accused had nineteen convictions for drunkenness and four for vagrancy against liar. Henry Jeffries, who pleaded guilty to a charge oi not having sufficient lawful n o.ins of support, was sentenced to three months* uupneoli.jne.nt with iiard labour. Accused, an old man had been before the Court previously on a similar charge. Lately ho had been sleeping in tho o r ou. His Worship thought he would be better off in gaol. For assaulting Constable Quinn while In the execution of hi# duty Michael Delaney was sentenced to seven days* imprisonment with hard labour. The constable had arrested accused for drunkenness. Delaney attacked him with fists and feet, hut was eventually overpowered. CIVIL BUSINESS. Dr McArthur went through a long list of cases, adjourning all tho*c in which defendant had not confessed to judgment.
