In tho House of Assembly the Premier, Mr Price, announced that the {Legislative Council had declined to give way in its amendments to the Franchise Bill. He moved the appointment of managers for a-confer-ence between the two Houses. A conference was subsequently held, and after a lengthy sitting adjourned before a settlement was reached. Ozl the 18th insl* amendments moved. In the Connell to tho Franchise Bill called forth a vrarta speech from'the Premier in the House, who declared that the Connell had mutilated the Bill beyond recognition. •They were face to face with a crisis. The Ministry had expected reason and moderation. and backed up by the demand of the country would have claimed some consideration from the Council; but it was utterly disappointed. The Council had granted concessions which would prolong its life, but still it continued to emulate Pharaoh, who hardened his heart. , The question was whether or not the Council should bo wiped out, this question had become an. insistent one. The Premier asked the House to send back the Bill to the Council In the same condition as before. Tho leader of tJirt country party, and also the leader of the Labour party, support tho Premier.
