CHRISTCHURCH, September 14. During ihe past month there has been a remarkable prevalence of criminal offence* by young married women. In on© case a -woman, admittecla charge of forgery. To-day Mr Bishop. S M., dealt with a case of thoft by a young woman of goods fiom a shop. The woman appeared in court well dressed and showed every indication of being well-to-do. She said that her mother had taught her to drink and while drunk the offence had been comm fitted. The husband was readv to pay the value of the vends stolen The magistrate , remarked on tho alarming increase of thefts by maried women who came to court and confessed, pleading excuses the court could not entertain. He convicted and discharged the woman and ordered 13s 6d to ho paid for the goods.
