Mary Shcohan, with two previous con- ’ victlons against her for drunkenness, was fined 20s, in default seven days’ imprison- > meat, for a further offence. John . McShane, who had been convicted twice previously for drunkenness, waa fined 40s, . m default fourteen days' imprisonment. Prank Saunders pleaded guilty to a • charge of theft, at Lower Hutt on May i 23rd, of £4 19s. tho property of George , Harding. Chief-Dctectivc McGrath stated , that-accused and Harding had been mates, mid came out from Home together some months ago. Saunders had been engaged iu casual work about the city, and recently applied to Harding for a email loan to enable him to complete the purchase of an express and save a deposit of JSIS which 1 he had paid on it. The money not being forthcoming, tho vehicle was seized lyy its , former owner, and accused seemed to have lost heart. While in this state of despondency he went to tho Hutt, where Harding was working, and took the money mentioned in the charge.—On accused stating his willingness to go to work and endeavour to retrieve himself, the Magistrate said ho ■would give him a chance, and Saunders was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
