MARINE ENGINEERS
At the annual meeting of the Marine Engineers at the Hotel Cecil, London; ■ r A. 11. Hislop, secretary of the New Zealand Institute, gave a short address' referring to the work which was being done on behalf of the marine engineer* of How Zealand. They .had been able, i he said, to establish a very fine technical library for engineers, which was second to none in the Southern Hemisphere, Engineers in New Zealand stood in a unique position. Thanks to the late Mj ■ Seddon* to the present "Premier (Sit Joseph Ward), and to other members oi the Legislature, they had oh the statute book an act which placed thorn in the forefront of the engineers of the British ■ Empire. There seemed a desire on th< part of ; the shipowners of this country to raise the status all round of those who went down to the sea in ships. The legislation in New Zealand, to which hr had referred, would be an object lesson f to their Australian brothers, who were seeking to place on their statute hooks measures for the assistance and support of the sca-faring community.
