BRITAIN’S NAVAL REPRESENTATIVES. By Taleffraph-Press Aasociation-Copyrifirlit. LONDON. April 4. The First Cruiser -Squadron has left Plymouth. It represents the- Navy at the Jamestown Exhibition, Virginia. The Jamc-stiv n Tercentenary Exposition opens on the 2Gth inst. The exposition is to bo in the main devoted to historical commemoration, its immediate purpose being to celebrate the first permanent settlement of the English in Amcrici. On April ‘JGth. IGO7, Captain John Smith, with semo threeRcore adventurous gentlemen ami soldiers from Loudon, landed from three small vessels at Cape Henry, bid, finding the natives hostile, he moved along about forty miles further south, and laid out a fort, which was called Fort James. The snot has been associated wth manv historical incidents. Over 10.000. ‘dollars has been spent on the buildings, grounds, and exhibits, but the total cost will be very much more than this. Every ravy in the world will be represented, and it is estimated that there will bo anchored in Hampton Roads, whose broad waters face the exposition, fighting craft alone that will represent an outlay of 250.000. dollars.
