FIRES.
The Fire Brigade received a call from Malesworth street last evening at 9.50 o'clock. A bed in a Chinee© laundry, owned by Wong Lee and Co., 60 Moleeworth street, was on fire, but tho blaze was quickly extinguished by hand grenades. Tho damage was trivial. INVERCARGILL, February 26. A firo occurred to-day in premises occupied by the Southland Bread Company, lato G. T. Smyth and Co. The bakeroom was completely gutted, and valuable plant badly damaged. A small broad-romi was also burned. The damage is estimated at £BOO. Insurances —Machinery £lO2l, gas engine and room £154, stock £250. building ■ £IOOO, all in tho New Zetland Insurance office, tho South British holding reinsurance of £SOO.
