GERMANY’S ALLEGED DESIGXS. RESULT OF INQUIRY. SYDNEY, December 21. A German correspondent of the " Sydney Morning Herald ” says when tho statement was made in September last that German firms were intriguing to secure a foothold in tho New Hebrides, so that Germany might claim tho right of intervention before tho Anglo-French settlement, ho had inquiries made on the spot, and received a letter on tho subject. ’ His correspondent, a resident of long standiug in tho group, and intimately acquainted with the happenings, and a Frenchman, so that ho could not be suspected of partiality to Gormans, .wrote“ Tboro is a German copra maker at Aoba, and two German merchants of Noumea—Zeilter and Hagen -Ywhose schooner sails under the French Hag, and is commanded by a British subject, have just opened a store at Api. Ono has a native wife, who owns a piece of land, at Vila, and another at where a store is erected, and also a picco of land at. Aoba. I heard it stated that in former years a German company from Samoa bought land in various parts of tho islands, but I never heard it said that of late the Germans have been ta-ying to do anything, and know of no other Gorman traders than Zeilter and Hagen, who carry on business without troubling about nationalities.”
