PRESS ASSOCIATIONAUCKLAND, December 20. The Hon. J. A. Millar returned * to Auckland from Northern Wairoa to-day. and was entertained by the Liberal and Labour Federation to-night. Colonel Gudgeon, Resident Commissioner of the Cook Islands, arrived in Auckland on Wednesday by tho Alanapouri. He will remain in the -colony until February. He will confer in Wellington with the Minister in charge of the group upon Governmental matters. There is no foundation for the statement telegraphed from here last night that Mr Justice Edwards’s health lias tor some time past been unsatisfactory, and that he is taking leave of absence on that account. His Honor is in excellence health, and he is taking leave of absence solely because he has been ten and a half years upon the Bench, and is more than entitled to holiday. During tho past year his Honor has done a very full share of the work of tho Supreme Court and of the Court of Appeal, in addition to undertaking tho duties of the Aleiklo Commission. James Alclihone, aged thirty, a prisoner in the Mount Eden gaol, was found dead in his ce-U this morning. •. WAIROA, December 20. The TJrowera Native Reserve Commission has concluded its'sitting, having completed inquiry into' appeals against tho findings of a previous Commission in regard to various blocks. PAHIATUA, December 20. Abraham and Williams, ’ Ltd., held a sale yesterday of sections in Hail’s estate, Pahiatua extension. ' Fifty sections were disposed of at an average of £Bl per acre. .* HAWERA, December 20.
William Thompson, the victim of the railway crossing accident on Monday evening, near Normauby, died this morning. The man never regained consciousness after his admission to the hospital.
