MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.

Tho Kina’s Birthday was celebrated in hearty fashion yesterday by the sailors in port at the Miasions to Seamen Institute, where an all-day picnic was held. All kind of novel sports and games were indulged in. There was a very largo muster of men, several Homo boats being in port.. There was keen interest taken in tho games, and great spirit and enthusiasm shown in the competitions. The following wore winners of prizes: J. Smith (4). A. E. Stacev (3), A. Lindou, C. Gill, E. L. Burgess, George Pegram, AV. Bergman (2), J. R. Cooper Cummings. Crook. John Henry Ferguson, and Payntcr. In tho tug-of-war the coasters beat the Home-boat men, hut the Mission Helpers beat tho coasters. During the afternoon Mr Kerr recited and Miss Elvina played tho piano. Tho money, subscribed on Sunday and yesterday for tho Widow Mason Fund amounted to -B3 18s. In tho evening a fine concert was given by -Madame Mueller and her pupils. Miss Krcef, as usual, presented each sailor with a buttonhole before the concert. Choruses wore given by Madame. Mueller and her pupils with solos hv Miss Baker arid Mr Smith respectively, songs by Aliases Rash and V. Mueller, McLean. Baker and Lawrence and by Messrs Trevor. Harrowby, Robins. Rich and AV. Fordo. Mrs Reed and Madame Mueller sauij a duct, and Mr Mueller rendered a violin solo. Cheers were given for tho King and Queen. Mr Moors, who presided, said a few words on tho temperance question. Several choruses, led by Mr Moore, were sung with great heartiness by the men. A hearty vote of thanks to tlio performers and to all who had contributed to tho day’s success was carried by acclamation.
