In connection with the critioiem _of the Westport Harbour Board’s administration it id urged that it would be to the advantage of the port if ope man were appointed to the dual position of engineer and secretary, ,as has been done in the case of several other harbour boards in the colony. At the inquest touching the death of the cabman Frederick Reid, who was fatally injured on Thureday night in a collision between his cab and an electric car, a verdict of accidental death wad returned, a rider "being added that no one was to blame. ASHBURTON, November 3. At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday Mr Wray, S.M., fined George Hickmot t 20s and costs for sending liquor into Ashburton, a no-licenee district, without giving the necessary notice to the authorities. Five men were each fined 40s and coats for being found on premises which the police were raiding in search of liquor, the owner of the premises having educe been convicted of sly grog-selling. William Porter pleaded guilty to making a false declaration of birth, and was' committed for sentence to the Supreme Courts bail in £25 being allowed., DUNEDIN, November 3.
