REPORT 0F NEW SOUTH WALES MINISTER. DIMINISHED BIRTH-RATE. SYDNEY, October 10. The report of the Minister %f Education for last year shows that 180 new schools were opened in the State and 203 closed. There was a decline in both the metropolitan and country school attendance. He attributed this to the diminished birth-rate. The Minister estimated that for the next four years there would probably bo a continuous decrease, averaging 2300 per annum, in the number of na-tive-born children of school age. By that time the turning point would be reached. The figures point to an increase then of two thousand per annum. FREE EDUCATION. SYDNEY, October 10. The Free Education Bill came into operation on Monday.
