Dr Findlay left for Sydney by the Warrimoo on Saturday. Professor Scott, of tho Canterbury College, was in town on Saturday.

Mr A. H. Rothenberg, of Wellington, left by the Wakanui yesterday for London.

A telegram from Hawera records the death of the Rev. A. H. Treadwell, Presbyterian minister, formerly of Lyttelton. The Mayor and Town Clerk of Dunedin will attend tho Municipal Conference to bo held in Wellington early next month.

Mr George Henning, of Auckland, who is visiting Wellington, leaves for San Francisco by the Sonoma on September 7th on a six-months’ trip abroad.

Mr G. A. U. Tapper, manager of the Bank of Now at Timaru', has been promoted to bo inspector for the bank in the middle district of the colony. Mr Tapper was entertained by the Mayor and councillors of Timaru on Thursday evening.

• Mr F. J. Wilson, solicitor, of the Public Trust office, who has been laid up for the last five weeks, is able to leave his bed, and in a week or so will resume his duties, which in his absence have been carried on by Mr J. W. Mari donald.

Warriraoo, to select an up-to-date boring plant for the Bonjthon freehold property. His Honor tho Chief Justice held a Chamber sitting in Wellington at 7.15 on! Saturday morning when Mr P. J. Kelly, of Feilding, was admitted as a barrister of the Court. His Honor subsequently -took, the train for Wanganui, where ho will open the criminal sessions this morning.

The newly appointed Parliamentary Secretary of the New Zealand Employera 1 Federation, Mr Wm. Pryor, of Dunedin, is> now in Wellington. He will remain during the Parliamentary session for the purpose of watching, in the interests of employers, the progress of labour and industrial legislation. He may be consulted at the Employee’ Association Rooms, No. 8, Empire Chambers, Willis street.
