KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Karori Borough Council met last night. Present; Tho Mayor (Mr A. C, Pearce), Councillors Lisaington Putnam, Cook, Dasent, Murdoch, Clark, Spiers, Mills, and Grant.
Tbs engineer was instructed to report upon a complaint by Mr Dryden of a cart track having been formed near a section belonging to him near Wallace street which was according to him in a very bad condition; also as to the srtate of the Orangi-Kaupapa road. In reply to a complaint from B. Morrifl. it wad decided, to state that the Council did not consider itself responsible for any damage done to his property through the laying of a drainpipe. J. G. Hame, who had let a contract for formation work in Campbell street, objected to doing extra work thereto. Ho stated that he understood he was: fulfilling in the contract let the requirements of the Council.—Decided to instruct the engineer to confer with tho contractors on the matter. A request wad referred to the engineer from Messrs Richmond and Newton for a wall to bo erected along the boundary of Messrs Baines and Newcombe's property, Main Kiarori road. The engineer to report on the necessity or otherwise of tho work, and prepare an estimate of cost.
It was resolved, on the motion of Councillor Lissiuglon, “That the road-widen-ing scheme be carried out from the cemetery to the ’bus stables, as originally intended, and that the work be carried out by day labour, under the supervision of the engineer, the lowering of Church Hill not to bo carried out until the question of compensation, has been settled." Councillor Dasent, in seconding the motion, said the engineer, in consequence of pressure of work, would require assistance in the supervision of the work. Councillor Spiers contended that it would be more economical to delay tho work until the middle of October. Councillor Murdoch said the work could not be begun for some mouths, as a fresh survey bad to be made by the engineer. \
Councillor Mills suggested delay in the meantime, and the ear-marking of portion of the funds for the purpose. The Mayor remarked that the whole Council was determined that, even if an'other small loan had to be raised, the entire work should be carried out. The engineer was instructed to report upou the question of obtaining a horse road-roller.
