HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Hutt Borough Council mef: on Monday evening. There were present the Mayor (Mr T. IV. McDonald) and Councillors Clark, Croft, Ward, O’Sullivan, Baldwin, Hobbs and Clere. Airs Sodden wrote expressing gratitude for the letter forwarded to her in her bereavement.

Acknowledgment of receipt of 4118 15s interetj, and 75 (amount of redemption of one Hutt Head debenture) was received from tho Public Trustee.

An application was received from the Valuer-Ueneral for declaration regarding amount of general rates received up to ■Abn Juno, for the purpose of ascertaining die subsidy required.—Attended to. Tho Eastbourne Borough Council sought information in reference to the proposed scheme for establishing an abattoir.—Request had been complied with.

The attention of the Health Department was authorised to ho drawn \o the tact that a patient had been allowed vo’ leave th ©hospital befor e he had thoroughly recovered from scarlet lever, and another person had caught the disease by contact. Tho Petone Borough Council wrote intimating that the work in connection with the low level drainage was undertaken by belli borough engineers, and that the labour charged for in the account did not represent any portion of tho Petone engineer’s time, but was solely for pegs, labour chaining the ground, and putting in pegs; also stating that many of the latter were marking data for tiro Hutt Borough. A cheque was ' asked for.—Tho Hutt engineer failed to see how tho Hutt Council could be held responsible, seeing that it was a joint concern, and Per ono had thought proper to allow the scheme tS drop. Tho Hutt body had no. been consulted in regard to tho employment of labour, and the matter was referred to Petone for details of the account.

Th© Hutt River Board forwarded a copy of its engineer’s report in reference to th© proposed bridge at Parker’s lane, stating that the report had been adopted by the Board, and that it would sanction tho erection of the proposed bridge on the site, conditionally on the strict observance of the conditions stipulated by .the engineer—that GfiOft of clear waterway be reserved, to be made up of 360 ft of suspension bridging, tho piers of which must not .be placed less than 40ft from tho river banks, and tho remaining 2i>oft to bo made np of trestle bridging. In reference to the widening of River Bank road, the River Board intimated that it desired to re-instato the road in question to its original width of half a chain. As the road was under the control of tho Borough Council, it was requested that the borough give effect to the Board’s wish. The latter would pay cost of acquiring the necessarv land, provided the amount was limited to 25s per foot, in addition to any actual costs incurred incidental to tho removal and reerection of Sirs Duff’s residence.—lt was decided that if tho owners of the property dedicated the land free of cost the borough would widen and put the road in repair. ■

The fire brigade wrote, accepting the terms of the Council in reference to light, ing the brigade station; and asking the Council to grant a site for hose-drying gallows, and for material in connection therewith. The members of the brigade worn willing to paint the station if the Council supplied the paint.—Requests granted, subject to the amount being deducted from tho subsidy to the brigade. The Railway Department forwarded a deed for execution in. connection with the Council's right to construct ,a culvert under the railway, lino at Western Hutt. The gas agreement between Hutt and Petone was submitted to the Council for

signature, and was authorised to be signed by the Mayor.
