STATE COAL.
(To the Editor "N:Z. Times.") Sir, —As a person who uses State coal and who is not interested directly or indirectW in the profits of the coal business, I would like to reply to your correspondent, '‘Tom Sit by the Fire,” and ■at the same time to remove an injustice that has been done to the. State coal depot of Wellington. I can honestly say that it is the finest coal I have ever been able to obtain in this city; it burns brightly never clogs, docs not require a poker, and contains no. more rubbish than the best of the other coals. Your correspondent's opinion is so much at variance with mine that I can hardly believe he lias been using State coal from the depot, and this difference only strengthens mv suspicions that there are two classes ot coal Being sold as State coal. I and several acquaintances have remarked how strange it is that the State coal bought from a merchant is very different indeed from what can be obtained from the State coal depot,—l am. etc., "BLACK DIAMOND.” July 6th.
