FIRES.

The fire brigade’s new motor engine whilst on the way to a fire in Duppa street at about 8 o'clock yesterday morning cam© to temporary gnef. The wheels skidded on tb© block pavement opposite St. Mark's Church whilst turning the comer and the engine crashed into the fence on the Basin Reserve. About 10ft of fencing was carried away. The firemen aboard were not hurt and after a trifling delay the engine was got under way again. The fire was situated in the scullery of a cottage owned by Mr J. J, Boyd and occupied by Mr Charles Pye, and was caused by the ignition of some kerosene. . The damage was light.

At a quarter past five Iturt evening the brigade was called upon to suppress a gorse fir© in Salamanca road.
