Richmond. borough engineer. wrote in reference to Garden road. Ho was unable to recommend the Council to take over the road until the maintenance period agreed upon had elapsed, and certain minor wuiks been carried oul. He was satisfied that Ihe trustees of the Pburuzyn os. tato had done much to improve die thoroughfare. Tho junction, however, of the road with the Or-nngi-Kaupapa mad, as modified, was unsuitable, and ho recommended that a workable foot-track he constructed loading from the Oinngi liaupapa road to join the Garden road above .Mr Gape’s quarry. Provided the land included in the present formation ami such land as lav 10 the north-westward (to insure a proper width of the roadway being maintained'. lie dedicated ho saw no reason, why tho roadway should not be approved subject to six months’ maintenance and" the usual security being held by the borough. Bettor referred to the Ibiblio Works Committee, the Mayor stating ha would like Iho committee to go over th» road with tho engineer. Mr Richmond also wrote in connection with Mcesrs llaino ami Newcombc’s road. Ho suggested that in order to secure A through street from the Main Ivarori road to friend street, a formation of <2ft (overall), including two 6ft foot, paths, concrete kerb and channel with six sumpifs. gratings, etc., bo constructed in lien of the previous proposal*, i. 0.. 4Gft overall, with one footpath. It was obvious, the letter continued, that a through street finished and completed in Iho manner described would he a deduct gain to the district. The construction of thin road to a width of fjilft would ho impossible on the grndientn suggested.—Tho engineer’s recommendation was adopted, an amendment bv the Mayor (that the original decision.of (lie Council be adhered 10.. viz., that a CCft road be constructed), being lout. With regard to a proposed street from Campbell's road (adjoining Mr Rainc’s residence) the Engineer wrote stating I hat the proprietors should he required to form the roadway H2ft wide over all, with two footpaths, the work to bo done to the satisfaction of .no engineer.—Referred to (he Public Works Committee .SANITATION. Residents of Katipapa road. Northland, presented a jnotition bringing before Iho Council the urgent necessity for steps being taken to cope with me drainage, which was being dealt with in an unsatisfactory manner. At present nil the drainage (ram the houses on thin road ran into the road’s water table, which was of such an irtegiilnr nature, and was so frequently blocked with tho washings fiom the road, that (ho drainage lay in stagnant and offensive pools at intervals along the channel, Tho petitioner* feared that unless tho matter wao attended lo in nn eileetiv;. manner there was danger of an epidemic arising. In regard to (his matter trie members of the Public Works Committee stated thov had visited the locality and they recommended that a concrete watertable bo put in. j nis recommendation was adopted.
