THE WORKING CLASSES AND THE GOVERNMENT.
(To the Editor "N.Z. Times.”) Sir, —I am glad that a working man, who, like myself, dees not wish.to be ungrateful, lias in his letter in your issue of last Friday, struck a note of warning to us all about the action of the independent labour candidates in taking the field at tho present time, as I do not think wo are strong enough to. return our men to Parliament. I have myself told some of my mates that I was afraid we were taking the wrong steps at the coming election. As your correspondent has pointed out, we have been often made use of by our opponents and the capitalists, and could not see it at tho time. Of course we will not vote for tho Opposition candidates, but all the same, if we split up our votes we will weaken the Liberal side and help the Opposition candidates to got in. I can see now what “A Working Man" says is quite true. And the present Government has not been a bad friend to us all—we can't deny it. We are thankful to our secretaries and leaders, but all the same we must not ho ungrateful to tlie Seddon Government. Wo have had worse and might have worse again.— I am, etc.. ANOTHER WORKING MAN. October 31st.
