THE MAITLAND DISASTER.

ANOTHER HEATH. FIRE STILL BURNING. (Received October 30, 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 30. Tho called of the explosion at the Stanford Merthyr mine, West Maitland, yesterday, which resulted in serious loss of life, is a mystery. The ventilation tunnel and fan were completely destroyed, and a large hole was made in the .surface of the mine. The death of Mr Adarn-s, the direcMr, was tragic, Ho had just finished .saying, ‘-Thank Clod, no lives are lost," when ho was killed by the explosion. Four hundred employees aro idle. The tunnels in tho mine have been scaled. Flooding has not been resorted to.

The fire is still burning, and the extent of tho damage is not yet. known. Mr 0. Fawins (deputy) has succumbed to bis injuries. Mr 0. K. loung (chairman of directors) is in a serious condition.
