Owing to blight the total failure of tho Auckland potato crop is expected, and as for tho probability of Auckland supplying other centres it is more likely tho supply will bo insufficient for local requirements. Almost all the growers in tho north aro affected, and the disease lias spread bo the Groat Barrier, which remained free from the post last year. Growers at first thought the disease was in the seed, and exports confirmed that opinion, hut the general conclusion now is that the disease is in the atmosphere, as crops which aro miles away, and which have not been planted from affected seed, aro afflicted with tho blight. This is tho case with tho growers at the Great Barrier, for they'have not got seed from outside. Mr Andrew Guy, of Palmerston North, has purchased from Mr Donald Manson a block of land in the famed Kairanga district at a price running into five figures. Tho block, which comprises 460 acres, Mr Guy intends cutting up into small sections. The purchase is one which should prove of benefit to Palmerston inasmuch as it should greatly help the work of settlement which is being carried on all round the district.
