MASTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Thursday. Owing to the few nominations that have been received, the Wairarapa Gun Club haa abandoned the ,£IOO pigeon match, and decided to hold a sweepstake on June sth instead. The.men engaged in ballasting on the railway line between Masterton and Hketahuna recently complained to Mr A. W, Hogg. that they had to live in tents, thereby involving discomfort and loss of time when they were moved about. The matter was represented to the railway authorities, and Mr Hogg is now informed that wooden huts are being built for the men. Mr A. C. Major, proprietor of the "Wairarapa Age," has presented a large silver cup to the Wairarapa Hookey Association for competition. This is the first cup the association has had for competition, though the body has been in existence many years. There are four or five clubs in the Wairarapa this season. and several ladies’ clubs.
