TRAM ACCIDENT.

A MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED ' BY A CAR. At 0.15 o’clock last evening n man, named John Charles 'Pedlar Abbott, when crossing tho electric tramway track opposite John Duthio and Co.’jv warehouse, Willis street, was knocked down with great violence by a oar travelling at smart speed. The motorman saw tho man when a few yards away, and balled out to him loudly as ho applied the brake. Abbott was removed to an adjacent restaurant- A, telephone message soon brought Dr Faulke to the scene, when it was die ■covered that tho sufferer had a severe, fracture of the skull, and there were indications of internal hemorrhage. Tho man was taken to the hospital ir tho ambulance waggon, and is now in a critical condition. Mr Abbott, , who resided at “Waitangi” boarding-house, in - Boulcott street, is a stranger to New Zealand, having arrived from South Africa about a fortnight ago. He is a single wan, thirty-eight years of age, and is said to have been in the service of the Transvaal Government up till quite recently. Mr Abbott is said to be; slightly short-sigh'ed- This may possibly account for. him not observing; tho approaching car when he started to cross the street-
