PALMERSTON NORTH.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Thursday. The first sitting of the Kimbolton Court was held to-day by Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M., an amount of business of a minor nature being transacted. The reverse of the old adage that after a storm comes a calm is being experienced in this district just at present. ’ After prolonged dry weather, the days are now punctuated with sharp, saturating showers, which are doing much to brighten the aspect of the countryside. Dr Graham has been offered a position as acting ship’s surgeon on one of the Chinese Navigation Company’s ocean liners on her next voyage from Australia to the land of the Mikado. The Manawatu Drainage Board to-day accepted a number of tenders for various works of improvement, and the new bylaws were confirmed. At the ordinary meeting of the A and P. Association to he held on Saturday, the winter show programme will be discussed'. A large number of ratepayers assembled at the Lyceum Theatre this evening to hear tho address of Mir Maurice Cohen, who is a candidate for the Mayoralty. Mr Cohen was well received.
