A seedy-looking man wandered into a restaurant, and sitting down, began to go carefully over the bill of fare. He pored over it intently without heeding the waiter, who stood beside him wait-, ing for orders. After 10 minutes or so, he took out a pencil and a piece of paper and began to make calculations. Then he rose and put on his hat. “Too stiff for me,” ho muttered, going out. Tho waiter ran after him, but h© vanished into the crowd. When they examined tho paper on the table they found ho had added up the prices of everything on the hill of fare. It came to £3.
