CHARGES AGAINST POLICE.
THE DUNEDIN OASES. PEESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, April 7. The Police Court was engaged all day in hearing . charges against constables of breaking and entering, and stealing. Alfred Henry Osborne was committed for trial on three charges. The articles which he is accused of stealing include silt handkerchiefs, envelopes and paper, soap, tobacco, pipes, etc., from three different premises. Bail was allowed—accused in £4OO, and two sureties of £2OO each. A charge against Edward Quill, of stealing a rug, pieces of tweed,- etc., was partly heard, and adjourned till Monday. The goods are supposed to belong to the D.I.C. and Ahlfeld Bros In the cases against Osborne, he explained when arrested how he canle by some of the goods. Some of the articles he said he bought, others were given him by Constable Moses, tobacco was given by Quill and a man named Riddington, who had found a tobacconist’s shop open.
