The total prize money is £129 2s 6d, showing an increase on last year of £34 4s. Dave Smith arrived from Queensland by the Moeraki last week. He journeyed on to Christchurch the same day and will be a competitor at Waimate on Boxing Day and Oamaru on New Year’s Day. Stmith competed at the meetings named last year. He was handicapped for Feiulding, New Plymouth and Wanganui, but evidently preferred the poorer company he would be called upon to meet in the south. Air H. J. Reardon, of the Mangaweka Athletic Club, has forwarded to me a programme for the meeting on January 23rd, 1905. The handicap of throe distances—loo, 220, 440 —is worth £B3, and points prize of a silver cup valued at £8 8s; the half-mile is worth £B, mile £lO, 120 hurdle £6. Other field events make a heavy programme. Nominations close on 3rd January. The Masterton St. Patrick’s Day Handicap of throe distances is worth £35.
