CARTERTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Friday. Tho Dalofield and Parkvalo dairy companies to-day despatched 3307 - and 180 cases of cheese respectively for Wellington, on route for Homo hy the Gothic, on January sth. Tho ironbark piles from Sydney, to tho order of tho Wairarapa South County Council, have arrived, and two of them, each forty feet long, will bo used for repairs to tho Waiohin© bridge, recently damaged by flood. Tho remaining piles are for tho Mangaterere bridge. Mr John Greathoad, a well-known settlor of this district, died at Greytown this morning after a long and painful illness. Deceased was fifty-four years of ago. For a number of years he carried on business as a blacksmith. Deceased leaves a grown-up family and a large number of relatives, many of whom reside in this district.
