The annual handicap tourney of the Wellington Chess Club is rapidly approaching completion. The sixteenth round will be commenced this evening. The scores of those who at the end of August had won a majority of their games are as follows:—W. E. Mason, 31 wins, li losses: Barnes. 121, 21; Fruhanf. M. 35: Lane, 75, 31; c.ottschalk, 7}, 35; Trathen, i\, 3J: Davies, 9, 4 ; Morton. 0,4; .Tossup, 8,3; Foiling, 8.5, 55 ; Platts. 65, 55; and Brown 9, 0. Tt is possible that Messrs TV. E. Mason and Trathen may bo unable to complete half their fixtures, in which event ilie games played by them would ho cancelled, slightly altering the above figures. In any case, a close finish for tho Petherick shield and other prizes is assured.
