Yesterday afternoon, at Miramar, tho third game in the Intcr-Collcge competition was played. The result was a great surprise to most people, lor Wellmgtou College defeated Christ's College by .en points to eight, after an excellent game. Seeing that last Wednesday AVangamu had been beal-cn by Christ’s College by twenty-nine points to nil, and that W. au " ganui had beaten Vi oilington last Monday by twelve points to eight, it was reasonably reckoned that the southern college would be easy winners yesterday. The chief reason of Wellington’s success was brilliant play on the part .of th® forwards, who averaged a stone and a half less iu weight than their opponents. The backs of Christ’s College performed well, but tho forwards were outplayed. Goodbehero performed brilliantly for Wellington. He Scored two tries, and converted each- For the losers Fryer and Overton gained tries, but only one was converted, and thus Wellington won op a margin of two points. The competition is to be continued at Nelson. The Wellington College, team leaves for that city to-day, and will play against Nelson College on Monday, returning toWellington, the same evening. THE WEDNESDAY REPREBENTATIVES. Arrangements have been made for the Wednesday representative footballers to plav a match at the Athletic Park next Wednesday with the Permanent Artillery It will be remembered that last year the Artillerymen won the Wednesday championship competition, . veai * thev did not compete but over halt-a-dozcn of their men played in Saturday championship games, and two achieved representative honours. Next Wednesday s match, therefore, should be especially interesting. THE ASSOCIATION GAME. The senior Charity cup games, conducted on tho lines of the losers dropping out each week, commence to-day with three matches at Miramar. Local interest had flagged somewhat in the senior contest, and tho association did rightly m closing the competition as the Diamonds could not be displaced from top position. The Charitv Cup starts with all teams, level, and the contest should produce some hard fights. The semi-finals of the junior challenge cup also take place to-day at Miramar, when .Swifts meet Pearls and Diamonds plav Ramblers. Both of those games should be interesting. The winners play off next week. Should any of these games be a draw at call of time, it is necessary to play an extra twenty minutes to decide the game. AUSTRALIAN GAME.
