ELECTRIC TRAMWAYS.

At the car-shed the fitting staff, under the direction of Mr Woods, is engaged fitting up the new combination; cars, which arrived from Loudon a, fortnight ago. Ono of those is almost ready for the road, but it has been found necessary to make a few little alterations before submitting it to a. trial on the track. These cars are certainly the most handsomo of those included in the city’s now rolling stock, The body of the car, which is extrr long, came out in two sections —tlx boxed-in and tho open ’portions being separate. Tliese are joined to form what is termed the “combination.’ 1 Smoking will ho permitted on that part of tho car not closed in. The seats in that part run diagonally, and are fitted with swivel hacks. A door leads from ono compartment tc the other. It, is expected that tho remaining four einglo-decbed box cars will shortly bt passed by tho Government Inspecting Engineer. This will make twenty-four cars ready tor tho track. The remaining eight cars that make up the present equipment are tho “combinations," referred to above, now being fitted at the depot. . ... . lii addition to these, the rolling stock includes twelve extra tracks. As it is admitted that more cars will bo needed when all the sections, are opened, the question of having some of tho body parts of the new cars made in Wellington might bo considered by the Oitj Council.
